    A history of British motoring

The first motor car in Britain was a French Panhard et Levassor, imported in 1895 by Evelyn Ellis. He completed Britain's first car journey, from Micheldever in Hampshire to his home in Berkshire, in five and a half hours - a trip that would take less than an hour today. By the turn of the century, around 800 cars were driving around the UK, with that number hitting one million in 1930. Nowadays, there are a whopping 37.3 million vehicles registered for use on Britain's roads. Looking to the future, new tech like electric cars, smart motorways and self-driving vehicles are set to yet again radically change how we get around modern Britain.

Friends, family and falling in love

{{profile.FirstName}} was {{get_safe_property(get_answer, "dee82aaf-c057-41a3-87dc-ce428993d191")}} years old when they had their first crush.

The science of falling in love

When you start to like someone, your brain starts releasing a chemical called dopamine, which gives you that giddy, happy feeling. It also heightens your senses, which is why some people talk about the sky looking bluer or the sun brighter when you're falling in love.
The brain also releases neurotransmitters, which makes you feel more alert and attentive. That's why you might be unable to sleep, or able to remember even the tiniest details about your new crush.
And if you hug that person, or hold their hand, you'll get a rush of a hormone called oxytocin. It's known as the "cuddle hormone" because it's responsible for that warm, happy feeling you get when you're being hugged.

    The meaning of family

The typical British family has drastically changed over the past 50 years. The average number of children has dropped from 2.4 to 1.9. The number of women who are homemakers has more than halved, while the proportion of children born outside of marriage rose from 9% to nearly half between 1965 and 2014. The idea of what "family" means has changed too, with many people seeing close friends as their true family network. What does "family" mean to you?
